All of us have heard about the danger bees have been under due to the many pest that have invaded their world. Bees are a crucial part of many plants pollination processes and without them our food supply could be in danger. Many beekeepers have turn to harsh chemicals in hope of keeping their bees from being wiped out from these invasive pest. This has in turned caused many pest to become tolerant of these treatments and grown stronger requiring stronger and stronger chemicals to treat. I don't know about you but I would prefer my food free of chemicals if at all possible. We are here to say it is possible. Nature has already provided the solution. Our bees are of a local race, adapted to the climate and even to the pest. These bees have been living centuries within the timber in natural tree hollows. They have learned to co-exist with these pest and yet still produce honey year after year. We catch these bees only with they naturally put off swarms as they grow to big for theirs current home. We keep them in insulated horizontal Layens hives mimicking nature as best we can. We visit our hives as little as possible avoiding stressing the bees. We never feed them artificial syrups as this can be detrimental to their long term health. When we harvest honey we only take what the bees do not need to survive the winter. We usually harvest in the fall where we also winterize the hives.
We are a family own and operated business with three generations. Our business started in hopes to provide high quality chemical free food.
Much of our understanding and philosophy behind beekeeping is derived from Dr. Leo Sharashkin of horizontalhive.com. He has been a tremendous influence for us and our journey. With the knowledge from his website we have grown our apiary the natural way.
Our hope is to continue to grow our farm and apiary producing the highest quality food we can. In this growth we hope to continue to strengthen the local race of bees thorough continued natural propagation.
